MDDC Public Consultation on the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) Higher Bullring Public Realm Enhancements in Cullompton

As you may be aware, the Cullompton HSHAZ programme includes a key project to enhance the Higher Bullring area of Cullompton. The aims of this project are to:

  • Enhance the heritage setting of the town centre and War Memorial area
  • Reduce the dominance of motor vehicles;
  • Provide an extended space for community events and cultural activities while providing a focus for civic pride.

Following a round of initial consultation undertaken in summer 2021 in Cullompton, a consultant team was appointed to develop proposals for an enhanced area of public realm focused around the War memorial within the Higher Bullring. These consultants have now prepared a concept design which has taken on board feedback from the various consultation events held last year. This latest consultation is to consider the more detailed elements of the design produced by the consultant team and undertake a final round of public consultation, prior to seeking to progress to implementation of the works. The consultation runs from 4th July to the 21st August 2022.

You can view the concept design and respond to the survey on the Council’s website – please visit

All consultation boards and paper copies of the surveys will be on display at the Hayridge Centre, Cullompton, from 5th July to the 21st August 2022. You can also comment by email to or by post to Phoenix House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton EX16 6PP.

MDDC will also be running two events where consultation material will be displayed and staff will be on hand to answer any questions, including:

  • 26th July 2022 from 10am to 1pm, at the Walronds Garden, 6 Fore Street, Cullompton
  • 30th July 2022 at the Cullompton Farmers Market
