Vehicle Crime in Willand

Over the past few months local residents have raised concerns over the number of vehicle and attempted vehicle thefts in the Village. The Police have advised that there have been 29 stolen vehicle offences across Devon linked to the same group of offenders since the start of the year. The perpetrators have entered people’s home and stolen the car keys and then taken the vehicle.

The Police have offered the following advice:

  • Report any suspicious activity to the police involving persons or vehicles, as this may assist where other people have already been targeted by offenders.
  • Invest in a sturdy front door lock and/or chain. This may prove sufficient to in preventing entry to your premises.
  • Consider the purchase of a motion sensor light, and/or a doorbell camera. These visible deterrents may prove sufficient to persuade offenders not to approach your premises.
  • Do not keep your vehicle keys in obvious or visible places, where they can be quickly located by an intruder.
  • Wherever possible, utilise any available off-road parking or a garage.
  • Consider registering your vehicle online with a stolen car tracker app, you may not be able to do this in the event it has already been stolen.
  • If your vehicle already comes equipped with an existing tracking device, ensure that it is enabled and synced to your mobile phone.
